We love Touch and Feel Books. These books are a great interactive way to encourage children to read. See below for some of the touch and feel books that we highly recommend for your toddler.
What is a Touch and Feel book?
A touch and feel book is a book for toddlers that has different fabrics or materials inside. These books encourage engagement by having the children reach out to touch the different textures on the page. As an example – on a page where there is a lion, the lions mane might have hair coming off the page for the child to touch.
In order to manage the different textures, these books are usually made of similar cardboard/paperboard materials that board books are, and we classify them as part of the overall board book family. Due to their target audience, these books tend to be quite sturdy, are generally able to be held by a toddler, and can stand up to some heavy wear and tear.
Noisy Farm
One of the My First Touch and Feel Sound Book collection, this book includes six animals, six different materials to feel and six sounds. On the final page, you can hear all of the sounds.
Baby Touch Numbers
Baby Touch numbers is a great board book to introduce your baby to numbers for the first time. It counts to five with five fun animals and five unique textures.
Funny Farm Animal
This Touch and Feel Book focuses on animals around the farm. The different textures are all unique to provide a variety of sensory experiences. The words in the books go through the various sounds that the animals on the farm make.
Have You Ever Tickled a Tiger?
Have you ever tickled a tiger is a toddler board book classic. Between walrus whiskers, ostrich hair, and armadillo spikes – this book has a great variety of animals and a great variety of sensory feels.
Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Other Nursery Rhymes
While not as touch and feel focused as others on the list, we love this board book because of its expediated take on all the classic nursery rhymes. Who would think you could get through 7 nursery rhymes in seven pages!
If You’re Happy and You Know It
This book has a big button in the middle that plays an instrumental version of the if you are happy and you know it song. In between hitting the button – it introduces different animals and asks questions about animals. Very fun – and the song doesnt go on for too long and isnt too loud.
Never Touch a Panda
From the same series as never touch a Tiger, This book has fun, colorful illustrations and whimsical rhymes. Some of our favorite art among all of these books
Touch! My Big Touch-And-Feel Word Book
This book has 150 words and 30 elements to touch. It is not a story – just individual words and textures. Great for identifying objects and building vocabulary.
Sophie and Friends
This is designed as an early entry point into the Sophie the giraffe series. This series is incredibly popular in France with over 50 million copies sold. Compared to some of the books in this discussion – the touch and feel aspects are relatively simple.
We hope you enjoy some of these touch and feel books!
